birdie

Ooops! I didn't mean to be away this long... my Internet access has been intermittent and since handing in my notice for my job my work load seems to have tripled, why does that happen!? 2 weeks to go.

But I have had a chance to play with my gocco...

My first attempt at trying to register 2 screens (it would have been three if I hadn't been in such a rush to expose the 3rd screen and flashed my last bulbs without actually inserting said screen. Hmmm, I wont be making that mistake again!) I enjoyed the process of working it out though, stretching my brain a bit, practicing using my printing muscles...

ta da!

Well I hope I didn't get anybodys hopes up yesterday about this stuff! It's my second go at this gocco thing (first try was a disaster, apart from not being able to see anything but spots from accidentally looking at the flash bulbs, nothing actually came out on the print except for a few dots, not what I intended!)

So here goes...

There are 24 bookmarks for an exhibition as part of the 'Library' project at Leeds Metropolitan University and Situation Leeds. They will be distributed through the librarys of Leeds (there's quite a few!) I like the idea of this project, that bookmarks will be left in books and who knows who may find them or what pages they will end up between...

I love finding random things in books. Whether it's a ticket in a second hand book or something I've put there myself a long time ago, I love that glimps of another life, a different time, something insignifcant at the time...

And I like pressing flowers in books so that's what I printed on my bookmarks!

...And then I felt so sad at having to throw the gocco screen away that I printed on all the random bits of paper and card I could find in my house (and then put the screen in a plastic bag in the fridge, I will use it again, honest! Why can't I throw anything away?)

Gocco!

Well I said I would talk about this yesterday, but I was too full of curry. So now I've had a nice sleep and a nice cup of peppermint tea I'm feeling much better, so here goes...

The print gocco arrived! All the way from Japan. It was excruciating because I had it delivered to work, so I had to sit there all day with it right there on my desk, with all its lovely stickers and Japanese writing, just knowing what was inside but having to do my work instead. Aghh! Im sure my work collegues were fed up by the end of the day with me looking at it and patting it and telling them what it was and what I was going to do with it...

Have been looking at these for ages, I did some etching at uni and I've been really missing it, and print making in general. Have been doing some kind of etchings onto acetate and printing those via the means of photocopier and acetone (like the grass on the 5x7 art I sent to Peggy).

But it's not quite the same. So I thought I would treat myself to one of these and see what I can come up with...
