self portrait with apron

Pattern from this book. I've never followed a sewing pattern before, at least not without the help of my mum (!) so I thought it was time to give it a go... and I'm so proud of the result! I had the house to myself for the night, and after a few hours of concentration, a bit of stitch ripping (tiny pleats? agh!) and lots of bits of cotton all over the carpet, much to my surprise, an apron emerged! I can hardly bare to give it away, but as I made it as a present for my friend's birthday I suppose I better package it up...

i'm so impressed. patterns scare me. i started an apron using a pattern months ago. currently it is still pinned waiting to be cut. i just don't think i'm up to it, i think i'll mess it up!

Kelly, you won't mess it up, just cut it! And even if it does go a bit wrong 1. probably no one will notice 2. the next one will be better - so go do it! :)

Loving the Apron Sarah. Go you.

The first time I made something from a pattern was on my textiles degree, we were told that we had to make a garment from scratch (including making the fabric) for the annual fashion show, and were pretty much left to do it ourselves without knowing about pattern cutting or anything. So I forced myself to learn, and you know it wasn't as scary as I thought.
