birdie book

A birdie photo album, with embroidered bird and concertina & buttonhole binding...

I think buttonhole is my new favorite type of binding (apart from concertina of course ;) ) Its so satisfying and surprisingly quick to sew...

I love the way it makes a kind of headband at the spine...

And although this binding involved gluing the embroidered cloth to the cover boards (a tricky endeavor), the glue actually didn't get all over, could this be a breakthrough?!

Sarah, this is lovely. Did you do the embroidery? I've only made a mock up of the buttonhole book but I must try doing a proper one. I loved that crazy video of the buttonhole tutorial with the mariachi band in the background,

Hi Carol, glad you like it, I did sew the bird myself, it was akind of experiment to see if it would work on a book cover... it ended up a bit lumpy looking but I think if I use thinner thread next time it could work...

I've never seen that video, will have to have a look! And yes, you should make a proper one, they're great :)

That's a very lovely book, Sarah. I like the rather raw look of that linen very much, and that birdie anyway :)

Hi Sarah! Your new buttonhole book looks lovely! Embroidery is out of this world, at least to me. I'm handy with headbands etc, but that's not the same...

I'd like to thank you for making my day, many many times, and give you a little award. It's in my blog waiting for you :)

The book went down well with its recipient (a friend whos recently has a baby) I think more embroidery onto book covers might be on its way!

Thank you for all your kind comments :)
